Restyled Heirloom Dress

Abby

Abby is unapologetically fashion-forward, with a bold sense of style and a love for doing things her own way. For her Las Vegas destination wedding, she wanted something unexpected—modern, confident, and a little sassy—while still honoring her mother. The answer was her mom’s wedding gown, reimagined not as a dress, but as a strapless bridal jumpsuit that reflected Abby’s contemporary aesthetic while carrying the emotional significance of the original garment.

After carefully examining the once-worn gown, Susan proposed a design that preserved its most meaningful elements while solving for an entirely new silhouette. The original bodice appliqués and flower-embroidered organza from the skirt were thoughtfully repurposed for the new bodice, maintaining their original placement to honor the gown’s history. Because the original fabric was not suitable for a jumpsuit, a new double crepe was introduced—selected through careful swatching for its structure, drape, and tone—allowing the design to feel modern while seamlessly blending old and new.

The finished jumpsuit balanced clean tailoring with expressive detail: buttons covering the zipper, heirloom appliqués layered over organza, and a sculptural bow at the back designed to suggest the presence of a traditional train. The result was a one-of-a-kind piece that honored Abby’s mother while giving Abby complete freedom to express her own style—a bold example of how thoughtful restyling can carry legacy forward in a modern, personal way.

Restyling Abby’s gown was about honoring what mattered most while designing boldly for who she is now—proof that legacy and modern style can coexist beautifully.
